Fatal Error

About once an hour a little grey box pops up on the TV screen. The box contains the words 'fatal error' in white. The TV continues to work and the box eventually goes away. Does anybody have any idea what is causing it and what I can do to get rid of it?

Hi londondavid ,

Is the model number KD-55XD8599 ? Also, do you have any external devices connected to the TV? On which input does this issue happen?

Cheers,

The model number is indeed KD-55XD8599.

There are 3 external devices connected:

a Humax FVP 5000T

a Samsung USB connected portable hard disk

a Bose loudspeaker

I get the fatal error message when the TV and Bose loudspeaker are both switched on, the disk is not in use and the Humax is on standby.

I also get it when:

- the disk is in use and the Humax is on standby

- the Humax is on and the disk not in use

- the Humax is on and the disk is in use

I am very confused, my last post seems to have been reposted as if it were a solution.

Is there no one out there who can help me?

Hi there,

This is indeed very strange but let's get back to basics:

1-Perform a power cycle to the whole system (disconnect all involved devices from the mains for a few minutes).

2-Clear the cache on the TV (Settings - Storage and reset - Internal storage - Cache - Clear)

3-Make sure the TV is up to date: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-android-xd85xx_x85xxd-series/kd-55xd8599/download...

4-If the issue remains, remove all external devices and use the TV for a while (On Youtube for example) to see if the message comes up.

5-If the error message doesn't come up, start a process of elimination; by connecting each of the devices you listed above individually to see if the issue will appear with a particular one.

6-If there is no specific pattern, try resetting the TV to factory settings: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00122829

Let us know the outcome of course, I'm interested to know how it goes!
