Would like our recordings to have subtitles (with the possibility to switch off). But would like live TV to be without subtitles, without having to keeping switching them off with the action menu every time you change channel.
Thanks for letting us know.
How would you envisage the UI for this being arranged?
@royabrown2 Thought there might be some settings. Understand from your post that there are not
What model of Sony TV do you have.
What do you mean by the Action menu.
If subtitles are not set to display for live TV when you switch channels they should remain off.
Settings> Channels & Input> Preferences> Subtile settings> Broadcast> Subtitle (Off/ Basic or Hard of hearing)
The above path is for my Sony TV, yours may be slightly different depending on model.
Pressing the subtitle button on the remote control should turn them on.
I take it you are using the TV to record programmes using an attached HDD.
If so pressing the subtitle button on the remote will either switch on or off the subtitles on your recordings.
If you are using another device to record programmes subtitles will be controlled via that devices own remote control.
@daveyh64 Thanks! My TV model is KD-45XD8088 from 2016. Only recently have we started using the recording feature, using a 256 GB usb-stick
Yes I can get to the settings of subtitles: Off/Basic/Hard of hearing.
When using Off there are no subtitles on live TV or on recordings
When using Basic all recordings have subtitles which cannot be switched off, and LiveTV shows subtitles, which can be switched off for the particular channel. Changing channel shows subtitles again etc.
My remote does not have subtitle key. Instead there is the Action Menu in the direction-UP position which allows navigating to the subtitle choice Off/Language (this does not work on recordings). A subtitle key would make it less cumbersome.
Remote model RMF-TX2OOE
Found the subtitle button on the remote "...." bottom left above HELP! Less cumbersome! Thanks!
