Two brand new Action Cam models were announced during CES - the Full HD HDR-AS200V, and the FDR-X1000VR - our first Action Cam to be able to record in 4K Ultra HD quality.
The X1000VR is every bit as portable and compact as our previous Action Cam models, but captures stunning point-of-view footage in four times the detail of HD. The added contrast, colour and clarity really makes your footage come alive, whether you’re hiking in the mountains or deep-diving underwater.
Thanks to the fast and efficient XAVC-S recording format, the X1000VR can shoot at extremely high bit-rates of up to 100mbps, delivering a picture that’s closer than ever to true broadcast quality no matter how fast-paced the action on-screen may be.
To achieve that authentic point-of-view perspective that captures exactly what you’re seeing through your own eyes, both new Action Cam models come with an ultra-wide angle ZEISS Tessar lens that provides a 170-degree field of view. The Advanced SteadyShot technology (NB: not supported with 4K shooting mode) has also been tweaked and improved, making it three times more effective than previous models at preventing the effects of unwanted vibration, whether you’re riding a bike, parachuting thousands of feet above ground.
We’ve also introduced a new feature called Loop Recording, available on both the new Action Cam models, which ensures you never miss a moment. Essentially, the camera is continuously recording video in its memory buffer - just like a lot of pro-quality broadcast cameras do - and so your camera will have recorded the start of your footage before you even hit the ‘record’ button. Perfect for capturing those split-second shots that you might have otherwise missed.
We know that everyone likes to use their Action Cam differently, and so this year we’ve designed a wide range of creative accessories that will help to get the most out of them. The new Live-View Remote is waterproof, can be wirelessly connected to up to five Action Cams and allows you to start and stop recording as well as reviewing, editing and deleting all of the footage you’ve recorded. Then there’s the VCT-HSM1 Helmet Side Mount, which adjusts easily for the perfect shooting angle, the VCT-BDM1 Board Mount for skateboarding and snowboarding, the SPK-X1 Waterproof Case that protects your Action Cam in depths of up to 10m, and the AKA-DDX1 Dive Door that replaces the camera’s standard case door and keeps the camera waterproof up to a huge 60m.
Both new Action Cam models are available to pre-order now. The X1000VR will be generally available in April 2015 and the AS200VR will be on sale across Europe from March 2015.
