I just upgraded from the STR-DB1040 to the 1080.
Has anyone found that the Sound Optimizer function of this amp actually works properly?
On the 1040 there was a very noticeable difference between the Optimizer being on (in normal and low) and off, for listening at night, whereas the 1080 the setting doesn't seem to make any difference and there is still quite a large dynamic range. The DRC function also doesn't seem to help but I understand this is only for certain Dolby Digital content.
i have seen someone else mention this too on the AV Forums...
Hi Morfsta,
Welcome to the community.
We will look into this and get back to you when we can. In the meantime, perhaps some other members will have some information to share.
Best wishes,
Ed
Hi Morfsta,
I've checked this option in the help guide and I can see it's mentioned that it won't work in some certain conditions. You can find these restrictions mentioned in this link: http://clc.to/2Voglw.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
thanks both for for your support.
I am aware of the restrictions listed in the help guide and don't believe any of them apply. This is either Dolby Digital or PCM via ARC from broadcast TV / Netflix or via Sony UHD blu ray / Apple TV via other HDMI inputs.
As I said, there was a noticeable difference on the DB1040 for an identical configuration.
Would appreciate some independent verification on this.
Many Thanks
Hi Morfsta,
The STR-DN1080 is more advanced than the 1040 and has more features which should provide you with a different experience.
Also, I'd check these conditions as most probably one of them is the reason for this, taking into consideration that not all these features or options were available with the 1040 like "Bluetooth Mode" and "DSD Native".
Cheers,

I think from my previous response that it is quite clear I am not using either Bluetooth Mode or DSD Native.
