A417S Audio

A417S Audio

Hi,

I've just got a brand new A417S, and it's pretty cool. However, when playing some quicktime files (not all), and also when recording using the line in (when docked) using Audacity audio, there's considerable crackle. In Quicktime (latest version 7 Pro), the audio cuts in and out and crackles, but the video is fine.

Any ideas? Btw, I don't think it's to do with power management, because I've set it to power rather than battery life, and it's plugged in.

Thanks,
Nick

Go into QuickTime's prefrences and go to audio, in there change the setting from DirectSound to soundcard (I've not got Quicktime on at the moment)

Hmm, I think the option's changed in version 7. From what I can make out, what you're recommending is ticking the "Safe mode (waveOut only)" check-box under the audio tab. Tried that, and no change.

I've given up on Audacity audio due to its inability to do anything with wma, and replaced it with Acoustica, which has no problem recording from the line in at top quality. What I've found with quicktime is that it's only happening when the Quicktime video is embedded in the webpage, i.e. it's only a problem with the plugin. That's not too much of a problem now that I have the Pro version, because I can save the file, and watch it in a Quictime window. However, it's a bit crap. Any further thoughts?

Thanks,
Nick

You should use version 6. Version 7 for Windows is only a Pre-version. Like a Beta. It doesn't supports all features yet.

Yeah, I would like to have Variable Bitrate and (joined)Stereo instead of normal Stereo. A quality setting instead of Bitsetting would be also nice.

Yeah would be a nice addition

Thanks for the help. I'm going to continue using the version 7, and just put up with the problem (hopefully just until the final version comes out), because I've got a license for version 7 Pro, but not for version 6.

Anything major new in 7Pro?

It's the HD video that I like from Quicktime 7. Obviously, it's not a Pro feature, but I like the ability to save movies and stuff. I'm hardly a power user!
