Hi
After a bad bios flash which rendered my pc useless I gave my Sony PCG-FX602 laptop to a genius mate who took the thing apart and tried to clear the cmos etc, but unfortunately had no luck. Thus gave it back and told me I needed to get a new bios chip or have my old bios chip reprogrammed. This seemed ok and I contacted www.biosflash.co.uk who were very helpful and said they could sort the problem. I thus left it for a couple of wks as I had a lot on. Now the problem is that in the meantime my dad unknown by me took it to a local computer tech person (in slough!). Who then told him the laptop was useless and would cost loads to mend, as the motherboard had been damaged by tightening the screws too much on the underside of the case thus cracking the motherboard, apparently this was caused when my computer wiz buddy took it apart! The bloke then told my dad that they'd simply bin it for us as it is now worth northing (the laptop is 18 months old). Its worth noting that I got exactly the said error beeps after my mate had taken it appart and put it back together, thus it appeard to me like nothing had changed. Now does this seem dodgy as my mate said this is very doubtful that this could happen by overtightening the screws on the bottom of the laptop? and that the tech guy was probably taking advantage, then repair the thing and flog it for a profit. Can anyone help verify this reason for chucking my much loved laptop, my mate has repaired loasda laptops before and said he'd never cracked a motherboard when tightening the screws on the bottom back up. I meant are they even connected to the motherboard in the vaio? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Hi Jav
There's only one way to solve this saga, get your friend to open it while you're with him, and look carefuly for cracks on the mobo. See also if he's using force to untighten the screws. If it's all well, you can expect this "tech" guy was talking rubbish and didn't really want to fix it after all.
Personally, if the total repairs go > £200, I would flog it on ebay for parts and consider getting one from www.savastore.com, they have similar to your spec for around £500. Or you could shop for a better model.
