Backup of Vaio and Display Question

I am really happy with my VP, but has anybody the same problem, that the date (that one you see when its in the cardle) is 'burned' into the display? I mean that you can still see the date when the VP is on, also it is only very light.

My next question: Is it possible to make a backup of the hole VP so that you only copy everything from your VP to the pc and then back again. Does this work? I doesn't want to test it because after formating my PC I can't transfer my music back.

thx

Yes a back up is possible, as the VP acts as a portable disk drive.

If you browse the VP using windows explorer, select the info you need or use control+A to select everything and then paste it into a new folder on your PC using control+V.

Job done.

Sorry forgot to mention that you need to use control+C to copy the required information before you paste into a new folder with control+V.

Ok thx and does anybody mention the 'burned in' date?

There is a backup functionality within Sonicstage. Think this preserves the rights management of the music tracks. Use this if you plan to format the VP and restore the music files.

Be careful with this way of copy. There is a hidden folder. be sure you are selecting it.

But there is still the question with the display.

The time is on the display of the VP when it is in the cradle and power is applied. The display is dim, but if you touch the g-shock pad momentarily, then it comes up to full brightness for a few seconds and dims again.

I think you can set the backllight to be on permanently when it's in the cradle - I guess you probably did that. Screen burn is a problem, that's the reason computers have screensavers, they're not just something to look at. I don't know the technical reasons behind screen burn. Just done a quick google and came up with this link .
Apparently the screen burn is reversable in most cases, but involves either leaving the screen off for a long time (which i guess you don't want to do) or displaying th inverse of the colours burnt in (bit tricky with the VP). Still, I'm suprised it's happened cos you wouldn't really expect the date/time etc. to remain the same for long enough to burn in. is there a particular time/date visible?

If indeed the screen burn is an issue - more people must have this symptom. Just one person ?

You are right, as the time is constantly changing, I'd expect a 'block' of burn rather than single digits.

At the end of the day, if I need to know the time I look at my watch.... You have to rub the VP Gsensor to see anything anyway it's so dim, what is the point ?!!

A simple mod to software by Sony could turn it off surely ?
