Why does the sound on my lovely new Sony Vaio PCG-V505CP crackle despite turning down the volume? The start up tune crackles, cd's crackle, sounds online crackle - aaagghh - please help!!

Sounds like a hardware problem, contact sony about it they should be able to help you with it.

Check to see if there is a driver update for your laptops soundcard also.
