ONLY FOR GREAT EXPERTS: Hi to everybody. I would like to set a question, that I hope gathers the attention of someone. I own a PCV RS402, with two memories from 256 Infineon HYS64D32300GU-5-B, of series. They know that I can widen the all up to 2048 GB. I have friends that propose me to add other two memories Infineon from 512 HYS64D64320GU-5-Cs. But sure that don't go in conflict considering that two are 5-B and two 5-C. I can put also the dual channel. I beg you the confusion it reigns. Thanks of heart, a regard to everybody.
Hi Alex,
As long as the specs of the two are the same then there's no problem.
Hi Alex,
As long as the specs of the two are the same then there's no problem.
Sorry to put a damper on this, but many PCs will not be able to address that much memory even if the specs are right. Some are governed by the RAM DME BIOS which cannot be changed. Others are governed by the number of address line busses that are built onto the motherboard. Either way, make sure that your PC can address more than 1Gb or 2Gb before making the commitment.
I may be wrong, but it pays to check first!
BTW, 2GB RAM is the maximal useful size for Windows XP Home and Pro. More RAM is useless. If you need more, then you need Windows Server edition.
2GB isn't really needed unless you render 3D
True, but it's the max. size which Windows XP can use for aplications. (WinXP supports more, but it can't use it really)
Yep

Most laptops (mine included) will only support 1024MB or 1GB of system RAM. I agree HITS, if its not the BIOS then its the mainboard!
As KL says, use the same types of RAM modules with the same Cache Latency (CL) timings.
It would seem that Microsoft never intended the Kernel to address more than 2GB of RAM for applications, Windows XP is very clever with RAM allocation... The more RAM you have, the more clever things it does with it to boost system performance - that is until you hit the 2GB limit (wow my old HDD was this size!?!)
If in doubt about how much RAM it can handle, check the Specifications of your desktop computer with VAIO-Link, and if you are still unsure ring them and find out.
(wow my old HDD was this size!?!)
