Has anyone managed to get an external optical drive to work with a VAIO SVD1322C running Windows 8.1? Mine stutters over the disc and at times doesn't even recognise that there is a disk in the drive. Is this a software (register) problem or is it hardware? (Microsoft says the external drive - a Samsung SE-208DB - is compatible). If it is software Sony support either wants to charge me to investigate this further. If it is hardware, Sony say it is the disk drive and refers me to Samsung. Either way, Sony have not been able to answer this question readily but are not prepared to consider that there might be a fault iwth the PC (which I bought by mail order from Sony) - I have restored it to factory settings a couple of times (what a long process) and it has made no difference.
