i have noticed, that the fan on my vgn-s5vp almost never stops. i have the feeling, the minute i start up the laptop it goes on full-speed and stays like that. even when i'm not using the machine.
i also noticed, that is bottom of the laptop is very hot. so hot that I can't put it in my lap
According to Intel, 52 to 56 degrees is acceptable for a Pentium M processor. The fan will start at lower than those temperatures and the speed of the fan will increase if the temperature continues to rise. I've seen temperatures up to about 68C when the machine is being stressed.
At about 93C the processor speed will be throttled to help reduce the temperature (This shouldn't happen unless there is a cooling fan fault or blockage).
At around 99C the system will shut down immediatly.
The Pentium M has a max. operating temperature of 100C
Hope the above is of use and puts your mind to rest a little. If you are still concerned that the temperature is too high then you could ring Vaio-Link and see what they say.
