Is there a quick way to search in this forum for k215b issues?

I have just purchased a K215b notebook from Comet. After discovering I have no recovery disks and after having spoken to the not-so helpful Comet staff - I've been refered to Sony Support.

Nobody picks up the phone and I had to abandon my place int he queue after 30 minutes!

Could somebody please let me know if not having the 2 recovery disks in pack is normal? and is it normal for the laptop to heat up quickly and make a terrible whirring sound when playing dvds?

All help is appreciated  :slight_frown:

Usually you can only make the recovery disks on CD-R or DVD+R/-R not RW.

Must be just a HP thing then.

Shaveen, I suppose you didn't listen to what the manual had to say exactly.
You say that you have no recovery discs whatsoever, well the manual states clearly that if you have no recovery discs packaged with your VAIO then it is "Priority One!" that you make them yourself.
The moment you boot up Windows on your PCG-K215B, you should get a prompt on the bottom right of the screen saying your must create your recovery discs.
If you create them later with other miscellaneous programs installed and other system settings altered since the beginning you started up your VAIO for the first time, it is not convenient because the recovery disc process backups the defaults and packaged programs preinstalled with the VAIO, although it wouldn't hurt if you create them now.
What I did when I first opened my K215B was: CREATE RECOVERY DISCS.
