Erm, this is just the way windows boots up... its completely normal, dont expect it to load everything instantly.

Hi Beardo,

Correct me if I am wrong, but should that not be MSCONFIG.EXE and not REGEDIT.EXE?

REGEDIT.EXE Edits the Windows XP Registry (best for advanced users)
MSCONFIG.EXE Allows changes to Windows XP Startup

Start > Run > MSCONFIG (press Enter) > Selective Startup > Untick Load Startup Items

Or

Start > Run > MSCONFIG (press Enter) > Startup Tab > Untick everything.

For the people who like REGEDIT.EXE better (PLEASE back up your registry first though), navigate to

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN

Deleting keys + values here has the same effect as unticking the boxes in MSCONFIG.EXE - but MSCONFIG has the prettier and easier interface.

Start>Run>Regedit>Startup and untick anything that is deleted or just a waste of time and reboot twice after the diagnostic mode has been satisfied.

Hi,

I had the same situation: long time welcome screen, then the wallpaper appeared but with no icons at all and after some 30 secs I got all windows loaded.

After changing a lot of settings my solution was quite simple: changing the wallpaper and it all worked!!!

Any one can explain why?

The T2XP has a 1.8 inch hard drive & a 1.2GHz Pentium M so it takes a little longer to start up.
