Leather Cases for the 40gb VGF-AP1L

Hello all, after trying to buy a leather case for the 40gb model and failing because the 20gb version doesn't fit, I have had this E-mail from Aaron at PDAIR, the people who make by far the best looking case around:

"Hi Bill.

Here is the update:
Pdair head office has no plans to make a case for the 40GB version. Which I strongly believe it¿s a big mistake since I have received a lot of email requests for this model.
So I personally have just bought the 40GB player (waiting for the delivery) and will get our factory to make a case for this unit urgently so you guys can have a good case. When it gets released it may be under Pdair brand or under `Handetta¿ brand (not confirmed yet). And not even sure the exact release date but we expect it to be released in about 3 to 5 weeks time since making a case and testing it is a long process.
When the above case is released, it will be available at www.gadgetino.com (not opened yet but will do in couple of weeks time) where you can make the purchase.
We will close the www.pdairshop.com and divert all Pdair products to the gadgetino.com site. This new site will have more accessories, more brands to choose from, better web site design, faster speed and more reliable.

I¿ll keep you updated with any interesting info.

By the way, may I ask what is the web address of the forum where all these 40GB users are coming from?

Thanks.

Best regards
Aaron"

So, that's where we stand at the moment, if we could keep all interest on this post for the time being, I'm sure that Aaron will give more info when he has it (I've given him the link to here).

I hope that it comes off as I'm still using the yellow plastic bag as a case!!!

Very well done indeed¿..

Having just paid £40 for the official case which has a rrp of about £10 I initially felt a bit ripped off. But seeing these cases go on eBay for up to £106 (I kid you not) I was, and still am, reasonably happy with it. It¿s a nice case even though you cant see the screen or use the touch pad with the VP in it and MUCH better than nothing!

I did order a 20GB PDair case thinking that it would fit the slightly bigger 40GB. But it definitely does not ¿ amazing really as we are only talking about a 3mm difference !
The case is superb and a bargain at about £20.
I shall definitely order the 40GB version when it comes our ¿ Hopefully it will happen quite quickly as PDair only has to slightly modify the existing case.
For those of you that haven¿t seen it it¿s here.

I agree with all of you. I am greek and looking forward to ordering this case as I'm currently using a small lowepro digicam case, not at all convenient. Please count me in!

Hi,
I ordered the case, before I read the tread that the case was too small.
I emailed PDAIR (binna) and asked if it did indeed fit the 40 gig version but got no reply

I recieved the pdaair case today. It is a very tight fit for the 40gig pocket and a bit of a squeeze to fit in. They are obviously aware of the size problem but chose not to reply to my query.

It is very well made and cost around £26 including VAT and P+P.

I must point out it does not have storage for the headphones when the pocket Vaio is not in use.

Hi,
........... I recieved the pdaair case today. It is a very tight fit for the 40gig pocket and a bit of a squeeze to fit in......

WOW - you mean you got it to fit ????

There was no way I could get the 40GB VP to fit the 20GB PDair case ....

Either the cases vary enormously in size or you needed to use quite a bit of force to get it in (and out again)...

I sent mine back for a refund - which was dealt with by PDair with no problems.

I bought the Pdair case for my 40gb VP. I admit that it was a tight fit originally, but now after several times removing and refitting to charge the unit, the case fits "like a glove". I am extremely pleased with the case, and have now sold my original Vaio case for a handsome profit, what a result !!

I'm really confused by all this stuff about the 40Gb not fitting the pdair case. I did post to this previously but for some reason my post has disappeared - anyway. I checked the Sony site and the 20 Gb and 40 Gb dimensions are given as identical - only the weight is greater.

I ordered and have received the pdair case and yes, as one would expect, it is a tight fit initially, as would be the case with any stiff leather case and it will give a little over time - it does fit fine and is excellent value at around £20 compared to the prices being charged on ebay for the official ones (at least £40) - the 360 degree belt catch that comes with it is great too and its cool that you don't have to take the unit out of the case to operate it without the remote.

I'd suggest its the case to go for if you can't get the Sony one at a sensible price.

Hi there Londonmuso, I think the thread you are looking for is "Carry Cases"

I'm really surprised it fits as the one I ordered just wouldn't.

Maybe the cases vary in size slightly.

As you will see from my post in the "carry cases " thread the 40GB VP is in fact slightly bigger than the 20GB

Interesingly enough the new PDair site states "not suitable for the 40GB"

Puzzling isn't it
