So i hope anyone can help me to Fix my Problem.
I have a 2 years old Sony Vaio VGN-A115B (the Guarantee is expired last Month). So i have bought two compatible 512MB
RAM blocks. I have put old Infineon out and place the new one to the slots. So i will start my Computer but he Stops on Windows XP Start up Screen. The Bar freeze before he starts Windows...I change the new one and put the old RAM Blocks back. but nothing changes. Windows XP Freeze at the same time.
If tried "safe Modus", "Promt with or without Network", "Last working configuration but nothing changes, too. Original Sony Vaio System Recovery works, but after formatting the HardDrive Windows Freeze again. Windows 98 or 95 Don´t work too.
The only Operating System that works is Knoppix in the expert26 version.
PS: the Bios show me the available RAM in any Option 1024MB or 512MB.
Thanks in forward for your help.
Hi gamefanx,
Welcome to Club Vaio,
Is the new RAM correctly seated in the slots..
Have you tried removing all the memory modules and then placing just one of the old memory modules in slot under your keyboard, try to boot your vaio, if unable to, try it in the slot under your VAio..
If still not able to boot try using a new memory module as above..:smileyconfused:
Thanks for your Answer.
The RAM is correctly seated in the slots....
and i have tried every RAM seperatly other new one included.
But nothing Changes....:-(
As Thalamus has hinted, you have the classic symptoms of the memory not working at all.
If the modules are seated properly and locked into place, I wonder if the new modules are faulty or incompatible.
What specification modules did you buy?
Was it PC2700 DDR333
ojoj :smileyhypnotized:

Evening Thalamus:smileygrin:
I see you're still being kept busy!
Late night visits only at the moment - too many other commitments - I need to retire!
I have tried every RAM seperatly.
The Support told me he can´t help me with my Problem so i have to send it to Vaiosupport.
It s wierd that the old RAM´s don´t work too. just in Linux
PS: The RAM´s was specification for the A115B And works great in an other Vaio A115B. Yes it was PC2700S DDR333
This is strange...
As you recently bought the RAM, try and call and talk to one of their techs support staff, they may be able to solve the problem...:smileyconfused:
Ensure the Ram sticks are twins too.
