OK, So I'm thick... My notebook won't boot-up?

Yes, the power cable is plugged in! :smileyblush:

However, I'm truly stuck... I have an older version of a notebook the PCG-GRX415MP.

I've tried all the recommendations from the help & support section.
The recovery disk from XP and Vaio Recovery will just not display on the screen.
Yup, the screen is absolutely free of any image... DEAD!
The power LED is showing.
The CD-Drive is working and because I can't see anything on the screen I have no idea what is going on.

So, I would really, and truly, appreciate any and all the help you have to offer.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Love and (((hugs)))

Hi shitei and welcome to ClubVaio.

Your inverter may have broken or you have a bad contact. Is the screen black or white?

Can you borrow an external monitor and connect it to the monitor port?

Press FN + F7 - do you get an output on the external screen?

This will tell us if you have a Screen or a Graphics Card problem

EDIT: I think your model also has A/V out ports - you could try and get an image on your TV.

Have you tried holding down the power button for 30secs without the battery or AC connected?

It is possible the vaio has activated it fail-safe mechinism, try (while switched off) removing the power cord and battery and inserting the battery again.

or...

Have you accidently switched to an external display
the computer may be going to that display rather than your notebook LCD. Try puting an AV out cable into the yellow port on your computer and connecting it to a tv and pressing Fn+F7 (or whatever button has the LCD [ ]--> button on it.

you computer may be on standby try holding down the power button until it illegally shutsdown and switch it on.

It is also possible you LCD screen is not working. If this is the case, and your computer is still insured take it to where you bought it from, with your insurence documents and get it sent to sony for repair. I'm sure they'll know what to do.

Sony GRX's are well known for memory slot problems (poor solderng) which will prevent it booting up at all or only sometimes.

Does it boot and load Windows ie lots of HDD activity initially with just a blank screen?

You say the CD drive works, but is it just spinning?

If it doesn't:

If the suggestions already made do not work and you have an empty DIMM memory socket try putting your RAM in the other slot.

If both are occupied try populating just one slot (each slot in turn).

If you find you have still have one working socket your Vaio may live for a while yet.
