Hi,
I'm having it collected for repair next week, but here's the problem any way...
When WinXP loads the screen goes really dim. I don't think it is the backlight or inverter, because you can see the VAIO splash screen and BIOS menu. Checked ALL settings, ok. Tried recovery, same. Re-installed WinXP, same. Tried loading Win98 to see if it was an XP fault, all looked ok until the [;ug and play installation, where it stopped installing. Up to that point the screen was perfectly normally. Tried to reload WinXP, but even that fails to install now, something about Policy error. Could just be a problem with the disc though. Anyway, I've given up and it's going for repair.
I've just had an update from the Sony repair centre and they say the DVD Drive, LCD Backlight and Latch need replacing.
I can understand the backlight maybe faulty, but don't understand why the DVD Drive needs replacing, unless it's causing the fault? I'm assuming the latch is the lid catch???
Doe's anyone have any idea's on what they mean?
Thanks.
Maybe the DVD was faulty during their tests?
Yeah, maybe it's running a couple RPM less than their spec limit and they want to charge me for a new one!
I wonder if they will give me the test result sheets, if I ask for it?
