CPU clockspeed frequency states 3.06 0 1.86GHZ
In system Properties my machine states:
Sony Corp
Vaio PCG-K series
Mobile intel®
Pentium ® 4 cpu 3.06 GHZ
1.83 GHZ 480MB RAM
What does the 1.83GHZ mean? And how do I know if I have a desktop CPU or not?
Hi, jd
I thought, I have explained that last time.
True you have an 3,06GHz CPU. It's a Pentium 4 Mobile.
The Mobile CPU use speedstep technology. If you use your VAIO with battery and the system doesn't need the max. Power of the CPU. Then the system switch to another Clockspeed.
If you remember : 133MHz X 23 = 3,06GHz
If the system want safe energy, it reduce the Speed of the CPU.
133MHz(Frontsitebus) X 14 = 1,86GHz
Thanks Seb21 my apologies, maybe I didn't truely understand you. But you answer does make sense. Have you any answers to my other posts. Sorry about the repitition.
Thanks John.
Hi John
Let me try and make it simpler for you.
Lets say your cycling to work, and you are going along a flat road, not much work to do so you run at a speed which is suitable for you.
But you come to a hill, now you really have to peddle, and this is when the P4 mobile CPU has to use it's full capabilites, like you would have to if cycling, as it needs a lot of power to get there.

good anology loo...thanks much appreciated. Will the P4 change gear whenever it needs to regardless on how the performance is set?
If you use the power supply or if you activate in the energy administration (Energieverwaltung) the "Desktop" mode, then you have everytime the full CPU power.
There is a icon in the systray. Rightclick on this and open the energy administration.

You can set it to maximum performance so it works at full speed.
and also you will here lots and lots of noise from ur laptop which sounds like a hairdryer.
