It is a Recovery DVD because of the amount of data it holds is too much for a CD. It would be wise to buy a good quality blank DVDR and make a copy of your Vaio recovery disk incase the dog eats it or it will cost you £55.00 for a replacement. The other good idea is to keep all your document files, settings and explorer favorites and Vaio updates on the D drive and just recover the C drive. Finally the recovery disk only replaces the original Vaio package of programs not anything you have installed in addition to this.
Shame that........................

aha.. for some of us our vaio didnt came with recovery cd or dvd, its all inside the vaio in a hidden recovery partition (in the harddisk), so we are advise to burn out the recovery cd/dvd ourself. And some people didnt realize about this and formated thier hard drive thus deleted the recovery partition so they will had to buy a copy of recovery cd/dvd from sony.

Its your vaio is came with a recovery cd then there is no need for you to burn another copies and i dont think there is a recovery partition in your hard drive, just kept the recovery cd safe.

OK all Vaios are partitioned into C and D drives, correct? So why would they put the recovery disk files on the C drive???? so inexperienced users would reformat and wipe their essencial recovery programs.

no they didnt put it in the c:drive.. its in a hidden partition.. which means all new vaio's (i think) will had c:, d: and hidden partition for recovery software, which is normally about 7G (even tho it only uses about 4G).

Example my vaio A317S which supposed to had 100G HDD

C: drive - 27.9G
😧 drive - 58.2G

hidden partition - 7G (and i check it out the software only uses 4G)

You can if you wanted to.
But you have to do a full recovery to do it
