Recovery question!

i have a sony vaio ar11m and was wondering that if i make the recovery disks using the recovery utility then does the recovery partition still remain on the hard disk? I would like to make a copy to disc in case my hard disk becomes unaccessible and if i need to change it then i can recover the laptop to its original state via the disc. any help would be much apprieciated

Yes, it remains until you manually re-partion and format your harddrive.

once i have successfully made a set of recovery disks using the vaio recovery tool then to make another set can I just literally copy the disk using nero or do I have to burn them from the vaio software again?

I'm sure both would work. However, as it takes no longer with the Sony Recovery Utility it would be safer to use the method designed for the job. You can make as many copies as you like with the Sony Utility.

I recommend you make at least one set of discs as soon as possible - accidents do happen and you will have to pay €90 for a set from Sony.

thing is the vaio software gives lots of errors. its not stable at all. wasted a lot of disks (like many other users on here) before one set burned properly. so i was thinking if any one has tried copying the disks with nero (once a set has been made from the vaio recovery tool) and if the nero burnt disks would work just as well as the sony recovery tool burnt ones.

Home made recovery sets often appear satisfactory until its time to use them in earnest especially if you have deleted the hidden recovery partition.

Personally I would retain the hidden recovery partition as added insurance for a successful recovery.
