Can anyone tell what it means when the blue 'vaio' logo and and the power button keep flashing together with a high pitched whine

More of a guess than an informed definitive answer but I would check your cooling fans first.

CPU fan
Case Fan
Power supply fan

Does it boot up?

I posted the same thread some time ago, what a pain!!!

Take off the outer casing and blow out / vacuum off everything.
Basically its down to dust, once the dust has been removed, it will be as good as new guaranteed!!! Its something to do with overheating due to dust, they dont tell you this in the manual do they!!! do this & you're sorted.
