I would like to upgrade the existing 5400 RPM HDD in my S5XP to a 7200 RPM HDD. (I know, some people are never satisfied!)
I know where the current HDD is located, but it does not seem to be easily accessible.
Does anyone know if it is possible to "try this at home" & how to go about it?
Thanks.
For a general guide to opening the S series have a look here.
Rich: many thanks for your reply 🙂
That is a most useful guide, but there would seem to be a number of differences between the earlier "S" models which that is based on & the current S5 series:-
On removing the keyboard, there is a further memory module bay which needs to be removed, which is easy enough.
However, the "showstopper" would seem to be the two connectors & wires shown in pic 6: in the S5, these seem to be permanently connected to the motherboard & not the "pull off" variety shown in that pic. This means that the top plate cannot be removed to access the components underneath & there is not enough room to work with it still in place 😞
Unless anyone knows different???
