System in reboot loop

Hi hope someone can help.

Firstly I'm a bit of a techno phobe but have a brief understanding of computers so please explain in laymans terms if at all possible!!

When I power up my Vaio desktop just before it gets to the windows platform (using XP) the system reboots itself and gets caught in a loop.

Any suggestions how to correct?

Hi billib and welcome to Club Vaio.

This could be a driver verification error. Try tapping F8 during boot (when you see the Sony logo) and then select ‘Last Known Good Configuration’.

If the system then boots normally restart and try a standard boot.

This also sounds vaguely virus-like. If it was working and now isn't you may have contracted a nasty from the pond-life who seems to think that this is a viable way of life for them.
