TR5MP DVD-RW Drive and Drag'n Drop CD+DVD report Calibration Error on Fuji DVD-R

Hi,

wanted to burn today the 3rd DVD with my new Vaio PCG-TR5MP.

Software used is Drag'n Drop CD-DVD.

Well, the first 2 media used were Sony 1x-4x compatible DVD-R Media and they burned without problems (knowing about the really sad situation regarding writer supported burn strategies with certain media or the lack of and thus nearly resulting in rendering the whole idea of burning DVDs useless in terms of data security, I figured using Sony Media with a Sony Notebook a relative safe bet to start).

Today I inserted a Fujifilm up to 4x DVD-R media (mostly made by Tayo Yuden - almost always a safe bet and a high quality media for most writers out there) and this is what Drag'n Drop CD-DVD reported after hitting the "commence burning Button" (No idea how it's labeled in english, since I use the german localized version):

"Kalibrierungsfehler. Das Laufwerk könnte den Datenträger nicht unterstützen. (Code: 011-04-3058) (1E 2A 03 73 03)"

Which translates: " Calibration errror. The drive might not support that media. Code..."

On clicking 'OK' the drive ejects the media.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Is this actually a very good feature of the software or the drive - knowing the media and vendors which have proven write strategies in the drive's bios and which not?

Or is this just an annoyance, based on poor performance of the software and drive. Or worse - just a try to have users buy Sony Media?

Would the reason for this report be the software or the drive? (Haven't installed any other burning soft on my Vaio at this moment to verify).

Are there lists of media which are proven to give high quality results with the drive in the TR5MP?

ciao,
Torsten

Thats very strange Frank, I have never seen that before...
Wonder if it's checking the layers, or if it's a conspircy theory?

Definately worth it. Or try using Nero instead as it is incredibly powerful software.

Or worse - just a try to have users buy Sony Media?

I hope not! It's bad enough with the "unique" problems of the Recovery Disk(s), let alone having to buy specific media...
