hi all, i know this is the hardware area, but i thought i might get a better answer as this is where all the tech's go to answer questions about the pocket.
i've updated the firmware, to sonic stage 3.3 (from 2.1), and the music transfer.
then, when i put it all together (after following the instructions to the word) it came up with this when i plugged the pocket into the computer...

the connected atrac audio device cannot be used with the currently installed sonicstage. to use the currently installed sonic stage, you must delete all tracks in the atrac audio device or initialize the hard disk of the atrac audio device.
(error code 000066a3) "
naturally i uninstalled it all and tried it with sonicstage2.1, but of course the new firmware is not back comp. so i re-installed checking everything yet again, and still the same message comes up. i dont want to delete all the songs, 578 of them, as it is not backed up (as i dont really have a good enough computer, the hd is 14gb!)
can i save the songs in any way? why is this all happening? if i'd known they wanted me to delete the songs, i wouldnt have updated, the new version isnt that much better.
thanks for any help, i really really dont want to delete the music and do it all again.
