I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio pocket and as of yet I have been unable to transfer music to it using either the vaio transfer or the Sonic Stage. In the case of the Vaio transfer a message pops up telling me that there is no target device, likewise with SonicStage I am informed that there is no device connected. I am able to transfer files using Explorer i.e using the system as a hard drive but it will not accept music. I have loaded the software onto another PC with similar results. I bought the unit on the internet and so far the seller has failed to respond to my correspondence with him. I suspect software is the problem as in addition to the afore mentioned symptoms I am unable to creat compilation albums on the PC using Sonic. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
I am also in the same boat! Except this happened after I downloaded and used the firmware upgrade that Sony recommends. I followed the instructions to the letter.
Sorry this isn't a solution - but maybe it helps to know that you are not alone.
I've tried signing up to the ESupport only to find I can't register the product. I can only choose either laptop or PC. It's really frustrating. How do you get Sony to reply to any real problems.
I feel stonewalled.

Ok, a couple of thinks that may help....
Do a full reset your players using . (little hole on player)
Then, DL the firmware and update the player again, Unininstall SS, and re install (your music is usually safe, a back up is always a good idea though)
Make sure too that your firewall is set to allow SS access to the net too, SS must have access to work properly.
Have a look here too VP Support

Thanks for responding Chris but are you saying that the system won't work unless it is connected to the net??????? The laptop I us is not connected except when I update my Anti Virus and rarely at any other time other time, my desk top is my internet machine and my laptop my travelling PC which has accumalated more music than is good for it hence the purchase of the Vaio. Do you think that it is possible also that my firewall is blocking it, I'll try switching it off.
Thanks again.
Andy
You only need to be online when you first register & if you want to get SS to fill in all the track names for you. (CDDB)
with the firewall, set it to allow Sonic Stage setup & Sonic Stage rather than turning it off, just a bit safer IMO, also have you got SS 3.1 yet??
If not this is the most up to date version. 3.1

I have not been online at all with the PC that I am using(or trying to use) for my transfers, I am currently at sea and have only one PC which can go online using a satelite link and this is what I am using now and when I registered, hence my dismay when you first mentioned being online. I shut the firewall down altogether on my laptop, as I am not on the net with this laptop it will not matter for the moment, unfortunately it made no difference anyway. The SS is version 2.1 and I will endeavour to upgrade when I can but this should not stop it working at all which is my current dilema, also bearing in mind that the Vaio transfer won't work either. I had an email from the retailer that I bought it from and he claims to have tested the unit , before it was posted to me, useing his own PC. As there is no evidence of any music on the Vaio when viewed in Explorer I wonder whether when (if) he tested and removed the supposed test files he actually removed something he shouldn't have. It is noted that of the four folders evident on the Vaio the one named Demo is in fact void of any content at all.
Have you registered the VP with Sonicstage? Think its on the tools menu under device on SS. Think the s/w needs to register the device in order to transfer files to it. Part of the digital rights management.
Hi OceanSpec,
I hope all is well, reading your last post, I have a nagging feeling that if the retailer tested it on his PC, it may be registered to him and hense your other issues at the moment, Next time you can get online you are gonna have to try to register it again to see if you can??
If at all posible DL 3.1 and try to install and register all at once!!
Good luck,
Chris

My laptop recognises the pocket - but neither sonicstage nor vaio-link does ! i have already reinstalled sonicstage and downloaded the latest vaio-link - but still no chance.
