Hi there
I've just bought a VGN-A117S with XP Home.
However I've just found out that XP Home doesn't have a web server with it, so I'd like to upgrade to XP Pro.
a] will this void warranty
b] where are all the drivers
c] is there anything that won't work?
Thanks
Alex
It should work fine, if you upgrade from the install XP Home rather than just install a copy of XP Pro fresh. If you need the drivers again the Original Utilities Package along with all driver updates are at www.vaio-link.com. The warranty won't be voided, but XP Pro is almost certainly not supported. You may have the odd problem but for the most part it's all fine.
Cheers for that
Looking at vaio-link now.
I'm guessing that different flavours of XP don't give too many problems - it's not like the old days of NT v 9X.
I'd imagine that support would be limited but not totally absent as long as they still cover warranty.
Thanks again
Anyone else got any comments/experience
One question is the VGN-A197 exactly the same hardware as the 117 but with Pro - if so that makes me feel more confident anout compatability - I could even use the drivers from the 197.
Any thoughts?
Regards
Alex
Alex,
If it's still under it's 28 days return I would see if I could swap for the pro version of the notebook.
In a couple of days I'll be about 13000 miles away from my dealer
I bet a lot of dealers wish for that about their customers lol.
