Hi, sorry if this has been posted before but can anybody help me out with upgrading RAM on the K215B?
Do I need special Sony ram or will any do? Also, how do I find out how much RAM I can put in? I think theres one free slot.
Also, I dont like all this partitioning rubbish that comes with Sony Vaios so, if I install my windows cd that i previously had, will I then be able to download all the relevant drivers from the sony website and get the laptop running normally or will it have adverse effects.
Thanks
Anybody? Even if someone can post a link with some info?
Get your memory from Crucial
They are very good value and very reliable.
If you open the memory hatch on the bottom of your notebook then you will be able to see if there is a slot free. Make sure you turn off the notebook, remove the battery and disconnect the power supply before you do anything. Also earth yourself to a water pipe before you remove or replace any of the cards.
All of your drivers should be in a folder c:\drivers. Copy this to a CD-R before you do anything and make sure that you have a copy of Sony Shared Libraries and Sony Utilities before you even consider reinstalling the OS. Be aware that you will have problems installing any of the supplied Sony software if you do a clean install.
You should be able to use the supplied recovery disks to reinstall without the partition. I believe you need to select the advanced options during the recovery process.
Thanks Rob, I will write the recovery program to dvd
