V217 CD-ROM drive problem

My vaio doesnt read cds anymore.I have cds that they used to play just fine and now my cdrom drive can not read them..like the ipod setup cd some games and so on.I have tryed the recovery cds i have tryed also the latest updates but nothing!!! Can anyone please help me?? Do I have to replace my cdrom drive ?

Get a good quality cleaning CD (don't touch the reader). Recover the system too. Otherwise go to Vaio Link and set up a case with them to get it replaced. I bet it is a Matshita CD/DVD. I have one in my PCG K215Z and I light a candle to the Vaio gods everyday it works. They don't have a great reputation. It is a Panasonic product so I hear and no one company has a strong all round componant range (so why did Sony pick that one???)
