I have a VGNFS115Z notebook and I want to upgrade the memory to 1GB.Now it has 2x256mb. Does anyone know the exact specifications for the memory I need (e.g what frequency) in order to be compatible?Do I have to install 2x512mb or I can install 1x1GB. Is it possible for one slot to accept more than 512mb?:smileyconfused: Sony suggests a memory but there are no specification details and plus its too expensive!!!
I think that you MUST install 2*512 to upgrade to 1gb. Don't get SonyRAM, it's too expensive for what it is. See Crucial for good RAm at really great prices.
The FS 115Z has 2 banks of 1. This means that you can install one module at a time to a maximum of 512MB each. Therefore, by discarding only one module you can achieve 768MB. So yes, to achieve 1GB you will have to replace both modules.
As Hidomster suggested, check with Crucial for the exact specification.

Another variation of my namecrying sad wink

Thank you guys!
Hi guys...
I have opened the memory door in my VGN-FS and gues what ? the original memory which sony have inside is Crucial ...
LOL thats really good news - thats means you can buy Crucial RAM which is cheaper than Sony!
Just also remember that putting 1x256 + 1x512 MB into your Notebook will slow ist down since the dual-channel-mode won´t work. You need two identical Memory-Modules for this mode to work (indentical means same size and access timings).
Yeah good news:smileydevil: .....at least now we can be sure for compatibility with crucial memories!
