Window not succesfully launched

Hi.. Windows for idiots.. must have been meant for me.

Anyway, wondering if anyone might know. Hadn't turned on laptop (FX-503) for about 2 months. After powering on and the Windows XP logo appears, message appears saying computer was not properly shut down previously and proceeds to do a file check on C: Message the says - all files okay, Windows XP logo reappears but the process begins again i.e 'Windows was not properly shut down' and proceeds on to the same process. This happens in a continous cycle.

Has anyone encountered something like this before...

Welcome to Club Vaio, Jarvis.

If you are using the NTFS file system, try the following.
At the point where you get the message that a check of drive C: will be carried out, press any key to bypass the check. Hopefully windows will then load normally.
Then go to Start > Run and type CMD and hit enter. At the command prompt type chkntfs /x c: and hit enter (this will prevent CHKDSK from running on the C: drive).
Reboot and see if this cures the problem.

If this sorts out the boot problem then at the command prompt type chkdsk c: /v /f
to check and repair the volume.

chkntfs /d restores the computer to default ¿ i.e. all drives are checked at boot and chkdsk will run on any that are marked as `dirty¿.

I'm not sure if I could have avoided it... it would not let me bypass the system check or even type in a command.
