Windows XP Professional on a Vaio VGN-FJ1S, is it possible?

Hi all,

I've got 3 licensed Windows XP Professional copies, I've got 2 laptops and I bought a 3rd one for my little sister, my standart procedure for laptop is:

-Buy new Windows Pro license
-Install Windows XP Professional
-Install all the required software

When I found no software DVD or CD in this VAIO package I started reading the manuals and created the recovery DVD's.

Now I've installed Windows XP Professional and I'm getting several anoying problems.

- I've got an unknown PCI Device on my system hardware list (What's this?)
- Modem is not working
- Sound Card not working

So how can I solve this? I try installing the modem using the installation application and I got a report saying that the installation failed.

If I try to install the soundcard I get a problem saying that a inf file was not found.

Can anyone help me on this strange problems?

Thanks,

Pinho

Hi Pinho and welcome to Club Vaio.

In order to sort out the above problems you will need to install the drivers and utilities that were originally shipped with your notebook. You will find these either on your recovery disks or at Vaio-Link.

For a general guide to installing your own copy of XP and all the necessary Sony drivers and utilities have a look here. Ignore the references to US support sites and source all necessary downloads from Vaio-Link.

One thing this guide doesn’t mention is that you need to install the UAA High Definition Audio Class driver before installing the Audio driver.
