Z1 XSP mouse button wear!

Is it just me? ... I've had my Z1 XSP for a a couple of months now, and general impression is that its brilliant, but (!) ...

the silver/metal coating on the left hand mouse button has already worn through to the white plastic. Do I have excessively acidic fingers!

Anyone else have the same problem?

Cheers,

I have found that the coating on the mouse keys wears off quick, even on the GRX

I think that the wearing off of the paint is inevitable.

It would have been bettern if the mouse buttons were real metal (titanium would be cool !!) (hey how about the entire laptop being titanium?)

Unfortunately, many of us actually use our computers and have to suffer with them getting worn, dirty and less attractive every day.

My Z1 RSP is looking very poorly. The paint on the mouse buttons is slowly disappearing, the keys are getting "polished" and an unfortunate flying lesson out of my airport trolley led to the magnesium casing now being held together with araldite (screen survived!!!)

But, I still love it.......ahhh !!

Hey Steve, long time no see.
Sounds like you've had an adventure with the Z1 :slight_frown:

Yep. Was downloading some software update or e-mail while strolling around Schipol airport (the wireless network their is pretty good). The laptop was securely sat in the airport trolley, but as I pushed out of the lift, it quickly became apparent that the lift was about 2cm lower than it should hav been....trolley wheels jammed, and the notebook went flying......closely followed by a rather loud lesson in the finer English vocabulary.

So, after 2000 fellow travellers turned to see who had said Bu**er and F**k, I picked up the laptop and battery and gingerly pressed the on button. what a relief to see the screen still working, without cracks or damage...

The case and paint were damaged, but it lives on....

(no point is buying a new case......cheaper to buy a whole replacement laptop off e-bay !!)

The casing around my touchpad on my nearly new TR5 is already getting very shiny.:smileycry:

So shiny I bought a mouse but I keep forgetting to use it even though its plugged in.

Imagine the outcry if the paint around the door handles of cars wore off in three months:smileywink: (or if the steering wheel wore out)

Hi WIlliam,

Looks like we feel the same on this.

I don't buy the "its really cool technology ... so you shouldn't be concerned with the cosmetics" argument.

The technology is really cool, but I didn't expect it to look like cheap cr*p within a couple of months. This is not what I expect from Sony (but there again I haven't bought a Sony laptop before).

This kind of lack of attention to detail just drives me nuts.

I agree it should look good, but crying over spilt milk won't really bring the remedy.
