Camera does not write to SD card

Since mid-October my phone no longer saves photos to my SD card.  I am able to save photos directly to my internal memory.  My operating system is Android KitKat 4.4.4.  I have 49 GB of space on my SD card so space is not an issue.  How can I get the camera to save to my SD card again, since that is obviously where most of my free space exists?

I should also mention that my phone now gets to around 40 or 50% and then the power drops off rapidly (within seconds) before shutting down.  I spent about £600 (about $US1000) for a phone which effectively lasted 13 months.  Just another reason why I think Sony have completely lost their mojo and do not design products worth purchasing.
