Messagin problem

Hello guys. Since today i have a problem with my Xperia Z. I had a lot of texts in a thread with a friend and i tried deleting them today so i chose that thread and hit the delete button. After that nothing happened. I closed the messaging app and opened it again but it shows on the top left corn the icon and name Messagin and a white screen. Its frozen like this. If i touch the screen it says Messagin is not responding. Would you like to close it? Wait/Ok. If i press wait it does nothing, if i hit ok it closes but when i open it again its still frozen. Can anyone please help me? Thank you

First of all restart the phone by press and hold the power button and volume up at the same time until the phone vibrates. 

If the problem persists, clear data for messaging under settings > apps > all > messaging > clear data. Restart your phone and try again.

Thank you for the quick response. That didnt work either so i decided but after leaving it some time stuck like that in messaging it started working again. I guess there were so many messages that he needed some time to delete them.
