Hi guys,
Im a UK Xperia user (Orange is my provider); Can i assign my own personal ringtones to Text messages or am i stuck with the defaults on the phone ? I cant find a way of assigning personal music files to text messages, only ringtones.
Any help gratefully received!
Cheers
Hello there.
You have a couple of options, you could download Handcent SMS app free from the market which gives you the option to select a ringtone from either Android tones on your phone or any music file you have saved on your SD card. Or yuo could download Zedge from the market free again, and this gives you loads of ringtones and wallpapers.
Many thanks for the help, ive just downloaded both your recomendations. Neither work unfortunately, im still limited to using the phones default ringtones for some reason
If you hook up your phone to your pc via USB and mount your sd card,
Next on your PC, click on the computer option.
Then locate and click on the Phone Card option, (this should open up your phones sd menu)
Next have a look in your menu for a folder listed as audio, if you don't have one, create a folder by right clicking your mouse select new folder and name it audio, if you do have one, open this up and create 3 new folders inside, to do this just right click your mouse and select new folder
and they should be named
1/ alarms
2/ notifications
3/ ringtones
This is what I've done and all I do if I want a new ring tone, is to drag and drop it to it's relevant folder.
When creating your folders just use the name. eg: alarms (and don't use the number as I listed above)
In the handcent app if you go into settings which is the star at the top right of the screen, then select settings and then notification settings, scroll down to notification sound and select you should then be given two options android or select music. If you select music it should give you any music on the phone.
If you have downloaded a ringtone from Zedge then when you go into the same menu on Handcent you will also have an option of Zedge on there.
Tell me whats going on when you try and change your notifications.
Hi,
Ive downloaded Handcent app...when i open the app there are no stars, the screen opens up more or lessthesame as the phones own sound screen
thanks for this, ive tried this approach, and i can indeed save files to my SD card, but my phone looks to the phone for the notification ringtone and not the SD card
Have you actually created the folders as I said, as the phone has to have a specific place to look for the tones to play.
I have indeed, the ringtones work as ringtones no problems, but arent accessible when i want to assign them as a notifiation tone...
you need to put em in the notification folder as well mate, it's a nuisance I know, but it's a different OS system and it's supposed to make life easier. ![]()
