My Xperia M2 was stolen in November and I have a backup of it from about a week before it was stolen. I want to use the data from this backup and tranfer it to the Xperia P I am currently using. Every time I try PC Companion tells me that it's not possible because the version of Android the backup was taken from is not compatible with the current application. And that I need to update my old device do a new backup and transfer that one. Which would be easy if it wasn't ridiculous, because I no longer have that device. Is there anyway I could make this work somehow. As it is right now, PC Companion is absolutely useless.
Indeed, backups from different devices are not compatible. You can try to recover contacts using this method:
/t5/Xperia-S-SL-acro-S/How-can-I-extract-contacts-from-dbk-file-on-my-computer/m-p/235921#M18676
oh wow, that's sad to hear.
would it work if I tried it with another Xperia M2? I have most of my contacts, but I would have loved to recover the pictures...
The pictures might still be on your PC
Sorry about the pictures, you might want to try to rename the backup to .zip or .rar and extract what you can.
