I am trying to download a file from internet and the phone is saying this is blocked because its not a "Market App". When I consult the user guide it says to go to Home screen and press the four square and press settings>App's and mark unknown sources check mark. I dont see anything anywhere in apps for unknown sources? PlEASE HELP!
On your x10 open Stttings then tap Applications the top option is Unknown Sources make sure its ticked
Some carriers have disabled this function so if it doesn't appear under the Applciations tab then you can't do what is called side load apps. I know AT&T in the USA have done this. Let us know where you are from because its hard to keep up with locations/carriers and what they have changed on the phone.
There is something called Sideload Wonder Machine which is supposed to overcome this, but I haven't used it and have heard that when it works its great but it can also be a bit on the temperamental side!
I am in Peoria,IL> On AT&T.
I think this is unfair by any company to not allow downloads other than by the Market App. I had two more of my app's today saying I had updates. I downloaded the updates and the same measage came across. Not allowed because it was an update from the company and not through Market. Very Pissed!!!
You could have a look at this, although they are talking about a Dell Streak its still Android based 1.6

Don't know if it will release an xperia to give you the option the unknown source option AT&T have locked ot it may not even work on an xperia, but they got it to work on a dell streak.
I tried the Side Loader app, did everything they say to do and it wont reconize my phone. Still going crazy!!!!!
Type in the way it says and when I get to the last stoke it just disapears. Wont let me dial the code number. Thanks anyway. Still going Crazy!!!!:smileysad:
Ignore this one I realised afterwards you already have the app on your PC that you can't get from the market through AT&T see the next post I sent

Have you tried a different source such as Appbrain, link is belo, you need to register with them, you do this with your gmail login, very simple

tap the fast web installer once installed on your phone and enter you gmail details and password and login.
Now open the App Brain app tap manage and install and tap Sync With AppBrain.
Go to app brain on the web and log in then click my apps, this will list app the 3rd party apps on your phone.
Search app brain for the apps you want on the web, when you find one you want click on it and at the top of the page you will have add to list, add it tou your phone list.
Go to your phone and open app brain tap manage and install then perform install.
See if it works, or try searching for the app using app brain on your phone and if it finds it try a direct install from there.

Type this address into your phone
Make sure your tap on downloaded file to install
If you only have google to search just enter slideme.org/sam2.apk and search for that it will open the web site, below is just a link to the web site so you know what it looks like
Tap the link on the page i mentioned above, its in the last paragraph under the heading for android phone users, this will download the apk, once downloaded tap it and install it.
Once done, open pccompanion and copy the file from your PC to a folder on your phones SD card then disconnect from the PC.
Open the Slide Me app, press menu key, tap SD Card, it will search for APK files on your card, once you find it tap the app to install it.
This has to work, its not even a problem on my phone and its irritating me probably as much as you now, no idea why.
