Xperia 5iii: Always On Display: cannot set picture as sticker

When trying to set a picture as sticker in the Always On Display settings, an error is reported: "Error. Cannot load media." This problem has been reported on earlier models like the Xperia 1ii. It seems to be related to the Google Photos app.The workaround to remove all updates of the Google Photos app does not work anymore.

On my Xperia 1 it works fine, but of course the Sony Gallery app is still available there.

Can this bug please be solved?

Hi Hardy.66,

Thanks for confirming it works on version 61.0.A.15.45.

It now also works for me, so the latest firmware update fixed the issue.

Hi there,

Are you using the preinstalled stickers or photos from your Album ?

I want to add a picture from my photo gallery.

Do you get the same error message with all the photos that you try to set?

I just tried one picture. It is the same pic that I had successfully put on the always on display on my Xperia 1, so I doubt the pic itself is the issue.

Yeah, I'm sure it's not the picture:D

Which option of the ambient display are you enabling exactly?

Here is what I try to do:

And then after I have selected a picture, the error occurs:

Hey there,

Sorry for the late reply.

Why don't you try to enable your phone on safe mode and check if the same error message will appear or not?

In safe mode I get the same error message.

In this case I recommend that you try to perform software repair by the Xperia companion on your phone and test your device after that.

Make sure to backup your data before doing that.
