xperia 5v tethering error

after updating to the latest 67.2.A.2.60 I can't use the hotspot functionality anymore 😞 I get a tethering error message. Before (up to 67.2.A.2.41), was working well. I guess SONY ***** it up with the new update?

Hi @uybhege, did you try to restart your phone? Can you provide us with a screenshot of the error?

If you tried restarting and it didn't solve the issue, try rebooting in safe mode by following the steps below:

- Hold the Power button until the “power down” options are shown.

- Instead of tapping it, press and hold the [Power off] option.

- After a couple of seconds, a [Reboot in safe mode] prompt will appear that allows you to reboot.

- When restarting, Safe mode will appear on-screen, indicating that it’s in safe mode.

- Check if the issue persists in safe mode. If not, it might be interesting to delete some apps to see if performance improves.

- Rebooting again will return the phone to normal mode.

Thank you for your reply.

1. Here is the error screenshot:

Screenshot_20250313-180439~2.png

2. Yes I did restart my phone but no change.

3. I did restart the phone in "safe mode" too but no luck. The same problem as with regular mode.

Please allow me to mention how to enter into the "safe mode". Using the power button will not work! Here are the steps - just for your reference:

1. You scroll down from your home screen twice and at the bottom, right corner of the screen you click on the 'on/off' button.

2. Then you get 3 selections. You keep on pressing on the "Power Off" button and a message will appear, informing you about the safe mode.

Just to remind you that this error came up after the latest update! Before that, everything worked just good!

Thank you

Hi @uybhege, Force restart & Force shutdown your phone:

. Force restart: press and hold the Power button + Volume button for 10 seconds.

. Force shutdown: press and hold the Power button + Volume button for 30 seconds until the phone vibrates 3 times and shuts down.

Then, if the issue remains, perform a factory reset and perform a software repair using Xperia companion by following the steps in this link: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/mobile-phones-tablets-mobile-phones/xperia-5-v-128gb/arti...

Make sure to backup your data first: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/mobile-phones-tablets-mobile-phones/xperia-5-v-128gb/arti...

I did the "force restart" part and as expected, obviously, the problem wasn't solved. And the reason is, again OBVIOUSLY, the latest update. No restart will change that if the update has screwed the hotspot functionality. So, only a patch can solve that.

Concerning the factory reset, I guess you understand that this is a hell out of work. Imagine all the account settings I currently use in my phone have to be backed up and restored. We're talking here about 2 days of work! At least. You must be kidding!

Hi @uybhege, I understand your concern, I was going to recommend software repair using Xperia companion, but you'll need to backup the data to perform this as well. I'd suggest contacting Sony to investigate the issue for you. You can contact them using the details in this link: https://services.sony.co.uk/supportMVC/en/Contact/

it can't be any software repair using any companion for a very simple reason. It's a BUG. A s/w BUG which was introduced with the latest update. So only a new update which will fix that BUG can solve the problem. ONLY!

By the way, I had the same issue with a 5iii model some time ago (it should have been more than a year ago) but I was fortunate and SONY did issue an update and that was fixed. Seems like, SONY has a preference to often screw the hotspot functionality in the phones.

Out of curiosity, I did click on the link you included in your reply but that leads to a stupid and useless bot providing nonsense information and suggesting to follow another link which is supposed to handle hardware issues. So it was completely irrelevant to my issue and to a s/w bug created by SONY.
