Netflix and Prime Sound problem

I have a Sony KD65 XG879G coupled with a HTZF9 sound bar. When using the native apps on the TV everything works fine for anything upto 10 minutes when sound completely stops playing completely from the sound bar and even the TV speaker when the bar is turned off until the TV is turned off and on again. Amazon offered me a fix which has worked the one time I've used it but now the problem is on Netflix also. Bar is connected hdmi port 3 to bar and also by optical. Both apps work fine from V6 box but would like to use them from the TV as ultimately virgin may be cancelled.

ITYM XG8796 - with the G it’s a car 😛

So you are connecting to the correct input on the TV, the eARC one. But are you using an ‘HDMI with Ethernet’ cable, as required for eARC, or just a plain HDMI one?

If so, get the one with Ethernet. And you shouldn’t need the optical connection as well with eARC/ARC, so if you can’t get audio from the TV without it, something’s wrong.

You should get sound back to the bar even with a plain HDMI cable, but that will be just ARC, which will need both TV and bar enabled for CEC (BraviaSync).

But don’t mess with this, just get the right cable, if you haven’t already.

Then try it all again, without the optical, which is confusing things.

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

Thanks @royabrown2 for your reply

I am not using the enhanced cable but will get one to try that. I will also remove the optical cable, in my mind that makes a lot of sense that it is confusing things.

Can you tell us the model number of your TV and your connection setup between all of the devices you have?
