I have had my Sony Xperia C4 for over a year now, and I have never had a problem with messaging before now. The messaging icon on my home screen always has a 1 on it, and when I open messaging, there is no real unread message. Instead, a message from a conversation that I have opened many times is marked as unread, even though I have actually read it. I tried restarting my phone, but that didn't work. I deleted the last message from that conversation, and the previous message was then marked as unread. I kept deleting messages, and even messages I sent out myself are counted as an unread message. I have sent and received other messages in conversations with other people, and there is no problem, so I don't believe it is a problem with my carrier or anything like that. I appreciate any assistance with fixing this problem. Thanks!

Hi @kayleefaith18, welcome to our forum!
I'm sorry to hear about this, must be very annoying.
I would recommend that you start with resetting the messaging application in your phone, this will not delete any messages that you have sent or received, it will only delete the data for the application and messages are not saved in this specific data.
To do that, go to Settings > Apps > Messaging > Storage > Clear data > OK.
Go back to your home screen and see if you are still seeing this "1" on the Messaging icon in your phone.
If you do, try and install another Messaging application from the Google Play store, for example Android Messenger which is Googles own messaging application and see if you have any unread message in this application. If you do > read the message and change back to the default application again.
Let me know how it goes!
