Hi, can any one recommend which type of lens hood is best for the DSC HX400V. I have tried a couple but the hood is seen through the viewer and in turn coming out onto photos! Thanks
Hi robboard and welcome.
I don't think there is a 55mm screw thread lens hood that is suitable for all focal lengths of the zoom lens. You can try to find an ultra wide angle 55mm lens hood and hope it will not show a vignette at wide angles but this will be useless for high zoom use. I think most people use a standard lens hood and remove it for uses wider than 30mm. Alternatively, a rubber lens hood can be folded back at wide angles.
You could always try a wide angle 'flower' or 'tulip' lens hood which should allow shooting at wider zooms but this has a downside in that the lens rotates when autofocussing so the lens hood does not always stay lined up.
This is probably the readon Sony do not market a dedicated lens hood. Where a universal lens hood exists, Sony usually include this with the camera.
