Lens stays extended on DSC HS60

When I turn off power the lens retracts and then bounces out and stays out.   Also, nothing can be seen through the screen so I can't use it at all.   It is just over 2 years old and I am using the original battery and memory card

Have you tried removing the battery for a while,

(an hour for example) and then trying to power on again?

Thanks Jumpsuit.   I fully charged the battery this morning and the camera is working now.   If it happens again I suspect I might have to replace the battery
