Hi all
So I've had my laptop for a couple of months now, and there are a few things that are worrying me slightly.
1) I bought very cheap DVDRs and it seems that half of them don't burn - this is my fault for buying cheap DVDRs I'm sure! But they seem to burn more reliably if I don't touch the Vaio. If I jog it by even typing gently then the disc always fails. Is this normal?
2) My right click button under the touchpad has lost all click, and doesn't move very far so it's hard to tell if it's been pressed or not. I use mouse a lot of the time so it doesn't matter, but obviously this is quite annoying when I don't!
3) If you press the space bar on the left or right hand side, sometimes it just doesn't register.
4) Since I bought the Vaio, I uninstalled a lot of the software that came with it. I like to keep my laptop trim and free from crap. Unfortunately now the detection of external monitor doesn't work. I've checked the drivers and I still have the Radeon 9000 driver installed with the extra ATI property pages under 'advanced' in display properties. And I've reinstalled the hot key program. So when I plug the screen in, I have to press Fn+F7, then the screen is copied to the display. I then have to set the second display (external) to 'extend windows desktop to this display'. When I do this, the primary display becomes the external one so I then have to go into the ATI settings and swap them round! I then have to exit out of display properties completely before I can go back in and actually set the resolution of the external display to 1280 x 1024. And then when I want to disconnect, I have to press Fn+F7 BEFORE I unclick 'extend windows desktop to this display' otherwise it just says "setting not available with these options". I know the Vaio is detecting the presence of the external screen, because when NOT plugged in and I press Fn+F7, it doesn't give me the option to switch. This whole thing is such a hassle as I connect regularly each day (I'm away from desk at work with laptop a lot).
5) Is there an upgrade option that Sony do (eg. trade in old laptop for new after 2 yrs)?
Please help - especially with number 4!
1) sounds very sensitive to me, depends on how hard you type.
2) Thats poor, speak to Sony if it's not that old
3) see 2
5) I wish they did, it would be really handy
Hey KL
Thanks for getting back. Took a look at your website and Chuckalicious.... was gonna sign up to make some random posts but then realised there are only like 5 people, who all know each other really well, and it would appear a proper infultration if I did that!
I may try to contact Sony. I'm sure it's really easy when you know how, but I shall have to dig around for the customer support number and figure out what info I will need to get support! Is it easy or do I need some long lost serial number that I should have kept?! Actually - no need to answer, I'm just being lazy
