p.s I bought one of the first grt816s had it aweek after release could they have upgraded hard ware in later versions?

thanks in advance

USB2.0 means max. 480 MBit/s. That is only theoretical. The answer whether you ever reach that, is staying in stars. I can't help you there.

Sony renamed always their VAIOs. The reasons are different. What they change is never much. You could think they do it to keep the price at top. Correct me if I'm wrong. Check the hardware list at VAIO-Link.

thanks alot for answering seb you have been alot of help.

Does anyone know if it would make a difference if I bought a pcmcia usb 2 card? or am I doomed to slow transfer when burning dvds?

I'd burn at 8x on a dvd-r (Writer - pioneer 109) but it would take half an hour :S
