A417M Memory Upgrade

Anyone done an Upgrade on A417m using Crucial
If not any chance of checking your memory to Confirm these Specs
or do a Crucial System Scan and let me know the Results
Memory I think is installed on it:
2X256 DDR2 PC2-3200 ¿ CL=3 ¿ UNBUFFERED ¿ NON-ECC ¿ DDR2-400 ¿ 1.8V ¿ 32Meg x 64

I want to Upgrade to: 2 of these
2x512 DDR2 SDRAM PC2-3200 - DDR2-400
CL=3 ¿ UNBUFFERED ¿ NON-ECC ¿ DDR2-400 ¿ 1.8V ¿ 64Meg x 64

As long as the Specs are the Same (apart from size and max allowed) they should work regardless of Manufacturer right?
Anythig else to Consider?
Hope I am not the First :slight_frown:

Seems they don't have it on there compatability List as its new

Closest one I could find was the Ones used on Inspiron 6000 ,
Latitude D610, Latitude X1.

I am asking this as I do not have the Laptop yet and am going to some Workshops soon and am hoping I will have both of them in time.
Thanks

Hi Woodenhorse,

the A400 series has the same memory specifications as the A300 series. You can use DDR2 400MHz or DDR2 533MHz memory, and for reference with 3rd party memory suppliers you can use the A300 compatibility information.

See I checked that, but the A 300 series is using
PC2-4200 where the A417M is using 3200, which makes the A300 Backward Compatable I think.
However the A400 might not support that, depends on many things.
I wonder if they Down graded the memory for productions costs or compatabilty issues,e.g using a higher freq cpu, dif mobo installed maybe.

Funny they sent me an email saying that the only one compatable was the "CT6464AC40E" which is priced in US Dollars (must have been on US Site lol), which is 3200, looks like they have tested the ones used on the A317 models.
I wonder if its best to use 2x512's taking advantage of dual ram or 1x1gig which gives you the option to upgrade although I don't think I will be needing 2gig any time soon.
I agree that the Price is pretty cool, seems like the Prices of sdram have hit rock bottom in the past 6 months, and if you sell your existing sdram it would probably only be costing you around £50-60 to Upgrade to 1024.

i am using 2x1G sdram, its better using 2x1G instead of 1, and you might say you dont need all the ram.. but since its cheap.. why not?
