As I will never in a month of Sundays be deleting the recovery partition, do I still need to make the recovery discs? Yes, I know I've had the computers nearly a year and should have checked this out before!

If your HDD goes belly up then you won't be able to access the hidden partition.

It's totally unpredictable, you can buy two hard disks of the same make and model, one will last 20 years, another 3 weeks........ it's hard to say
