Can't read DVD! HELP! Pioneer DVR-K15

PLEASE HELP!!!!
Bought a Vaio VGN-FS215Z for 4 weeks: great toy! But can't read any DVD!
Material is Pioneer DVR-K15. Already reinstalled the material and the driver but no success: Device manager says the material is successfull installed and explorer says it's a standard CD-Rom reader, but it should be more than this!
Contacted Vaio E-support, they wanted to pick up my notebook for 4 days, but DHL didn't come anyway!!!
Has anyone already had this problem / knows how to manage it?
Am really disappointed and don't want to pay the 60 € pick up fee for a problem, that was already there as I bought the notebook !!!!!

Welcome to the forum Lise, Go to Vaio Link and get the latest driver for the Pioneer optical drive and all the utilities and then
go back to the device manager and delete the driver for the dvd. Reboot and XP will automatically install the latest driver. If that fails then install the new utilities pack from here

Hello, thanks for your help! Now downloaded the utilities package from vaio-link.com and saved the file "fsutils" on C:program files, but don't know what to do with it... Should I uninstall the optical driver and restart? Will it find the new utiltiy drivers automatically?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Lise,

The drivers for your optical drive are provided by the Windows operating system, not Sony. The only download that Vaio-Link will provide for the optical drive is a firmware update and there is not one available as yet for the Pioneer DVR-K15 fitted in your model.

There are certain utilities that control the opening and closing of the draw, I believe, but none that have any bearing on the ability to read DVD’s.

This problem is more likely to be hardware than software related but as the computer is only a few weeks old I suggest that you carry out a system recovery using either your recovery disks or the hard disk drive recovery utility. If this has no effect then let Sony take it away for a repair.

Btw you need to extract the fs2_utils.zip file before using it. This will create a Utilities folder on the C drive that contains Installer folders numbered 1 to 11, but this is possibly irrelevant.

Hello guys
Thanks for your messages: the e-support did not react, but you did. So I tried out your suggestions and just finished the recovery from the hard disc included the downloading and installing from vaio-link. That was my last hope... And... NOTHING HELPS!
So I really have to have the computer repaired from Sony, that means I got to find out why DHL didn't come to take my vaio, so that now they take it to the "repairing team" and the hardest thing: I got to pay 60€ for something, I am not responsible for... That may be how life goes...

Hi Lise,

Pleased to hear that it is now fixed – 5 days is very good, well done Sony (for once).
