cd\dvd drive isn't working properly... [:-/]

it looks like this.. it reads Data-CDs and Audio-CDs.. but when it comes to DVD it doesnt work at all... it doesn't read DVDs. is it possible that it could be damaged by a DVD? (few days ago i bought several imported from asia DVD, original, most of 'em are code free; i managed to watch couple of them... but after i've inserted "the last one" it made some strange sound like it coudn't read it or so... and...now it doesn't read DVD in general.... :thinking: :thinking:
PEOPLE, PLEASE, if any of you had above listed problem or smth like that, and you have managed to fix it, i beg you to give me a hint.. coz i am on my way to change the NB i bought in August!!! (i dont want such a stress):smileycry:

Hi and welcome to Club Vaio

What model Vaio do you have and is the optical drive a DW-D56A?

Have you cleaned it lately?

Hi Rich912,
I have read about your comments regarding a possible problem regarding the CD/DVD is not working properly. I have a Vaio VGN A295HP and the optical drive is DW-D56A and I cannot even open the drive. When I tried to roll back the driver it also tells me that there is no back up found as well. The driver is giving me the following error message;
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
It seems like you know the answer to this can you help?

Thanks,
Murat

It seems like you know the answer to this...

I wish that I did!

There are so many problems with this particular optical drive! There is a firmware update available on Vaio-Link but I doubt that this will solve your problem.

The recommended procedure for a code 37 error message is to uninstall the driver (in device manager), and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

I hope, for your sake, that that this has the desired effect. If not then you will need to open a case with support.

Best of luck!
